HOW MY CAREER STARTED AS A CHEF
I started sailing in Holland and Belgium when I was 19 and was immediately addicted to the feeling of space and freedom at sea and I knew then it was my dream to travel around the world.
During my studies as interior designer and master painter, and later when I was running my own painting and decorating business I always tried to sail as much as possible. It was only when I got the chance to do an Atlantic crossing, I became aware of the opportunities in the Yachting industry and decided to leave cold and rainy Belgium for an adventure and career at sea. It soon became clear that, with my creative nature, being a chef was the ideal position for me on board a yacht. To get the confidence and skills needed to cook for owners and charter guests I followed the Rosie Davies cooking school and later on I took intensive cooking courses in Thailand and Bali.
Now after five years of traveling and cooking in many different countries and remote parts of the world, I not only learned a lot about the local cuisine of the places I visited, but created a flair and taste for fresh and healthy food prepared to a very high standard and with an eye for detail.
Winning the Boat International Chefs Competition during the Boat Show in Antigua 2000 was a confirmation of my skills as a chef.
Now working as a freelance chef has allowed me to cater for an even wider audience, trying every time to get a feeling for the taste of my guests. Different people means different tastes, and I think it is very important to communicate with my guests before I start cooking,so they can enjoy a meal with ingredients they prefer most.
Based in Palma de Mallorca, an island known for its services to super yachts, I can make myself available at very short notice and fly where ever I am needed. |
